TARGET AUDIENCE

Our final piece is going to be a horror/thriller genre. Because of this, we are going to aim at a specific audience. Our main concern of targeting the right audience(not forgetting gender or class etc) is the age. We were thinking of making it a 15 rating but after a bit of research I found out that the most successful horror movie tend to be aimed towards 18+ rating. The reason behind this I believe that it is due to the fact that it lacks constraint towards content. We decided because of this to make it an 18 rated production and have almost no restrictions as opposed to content. We have decided to keep an age limit of somewhere in between 18 to 25 because the viewing tastes are very similar during that time period. We have decided to set our sights on the C2, D and E class from the socio-economic status (or the abc scale). The reason we chose the C2 group is because most of the workers from there are between our target age range. We chose D because they are the lower working class and they are not really busy people and they are always on the go for 'the' new movie. We chose E because it just fits perfectly with our age rating because they are students who are just enjoying life and don't earn enough and also outgoing. The conventions used by most horror movies the days are vulnerable young females who are unable to protect themselves. We have used this to help our planning and production by following similar convention type. Also the dominating characters such as killers and bullies appear to be mysterious in most horror films. We followed this in our planning stage by not revealing the "killer" in our final production. Also most thriller and horror films are usually shot in the nighttime, so we followed it agin with our opening scene.

  1. Perhaps you should highlight what conventions Horror films usually adopt and how this has affected your planning stage.
